The Hypex Electronics is a company with headquarters in the Dutch town of Groningen. Although the range of their products is very diversified, the Hypex is most famous for the Class D amplification modules. The Hypex was one of the first companies to believe in the potential development of this amplifier class, realizing that this could be the future of high fidelity: low power consumption, a theoretical yield of 100%, and ample opportunities for sound improvement in the future. Thanks to the genius of Eng. Bruno Putzeys, now considered one of the greatest experts in digital amplification, the Hypex has developed and produced the UCD series and, later, the nCore series. Today, many high-end amplifiers quite expensive are based on Hypex modules. Even the latest digital NAD, BELCANTO and JEFF ROWLAND amplifications were developed in collaboration with the Hypex.
The nCore series has more advanced technology than UCD and a reference sound quality in Class D. It includes the following OEM modules: NC500, NC1200, NC2K.
From the month of October 2016 we provide additional nCore models that form the new NCxxxMP series.
It is a range of nCore mono and stereo amplifiers with built-in switching power supply. The main distinguishing features are the flat frequency response regardless of the load impedance, low levels of distortion at each frequency and reduced EMI emissions. The NCxxxMP series also includes an HF module to add an additional channel dedicated to amplification of high frequency signal (tweeter).
HYPEX NCORE® TECHNOLOGY
Ncore® is the first Class-D amplifier not just to nudge the best linear amplifiers, but to surpass them in every aspect relevant to sound quality. If you want the ultimate in clarity, resolution and musicality, there is no longer a reason to trade efficiency or compactness.
NCore technology combines the stability of UcD with improved load-independence, lower distortion and lower output impedance.
The approach is multi-pronged:
A mathematically exact understanding of selfoscillation. This allows optimization of largesignal performance.
Improved comparator circuitry insures that actual behavior matches the theoretical model as closely as possible.
New gate drive circuitry improves open-loop distortion at moderate signal levels while significantly reducing idle losses.
A new control loop ups loop gain by 20dB across the full audio range without sacrificing stability.
Amplifiers using all four of the above will be Ncore. Amplifiers using only the first three will be sold under the UcD brand even though their internals no longer resemble that of the well-known 2001 circuit
"The X is NCOREx stands for eXceptional. This is an advanced and improved version of our company's known NCORE technology with 2x better audio specs, truly setting a new mark in audio quality. The first new module we will launch is the NCx500 OEM, which is pin and size compatible with the existing NC500 OEM, and can be used as a drop-in replacement. Hypex also changed and added some features, such as a high-end buffer stage with the company's discrete 12V voltage regulators on board. Carefully selected high-end components were selected to improve the sound quality even more. And another new technique implemented in this new module series is a differential idle current. Meaning, the module will run in a much lower idle current when it can and will only switch to a higher idle current when performance is needed. This technique results in a lot less heat dissipation. Without going into detail, we can already confirm that the idle losses are 20% lower compared to the NC500 OEM."
